Back in November I had a serious 5 year old in the restaurant talking serious fishing. I asked him if he'd be interested in participating in a fishing tournament "just for little folks". 20 ecstatic nods later, we had ourselves a tournament. The big folks have pro-am fishing tournaments, so why not the kids? I know, I know, not many 5 year old pros out there, but what the heck, it just sounds right.
In the end we'll probably have 2 groups (Under 8) and (Over 8)
I've spoken to a number of the regulars about it and I think we have some adult interest. Kathleen and I are shooting for late July. A good friend, Ed Shinton from across the lake crossed paths with some reps at the Muskie Show down in Illinois last weekend and he's passed along their names to me. I'll be sending off emails tomorrow.
If anyone has any ideas, shoot me an email. I'm open to anything. I need ideas about prizes, shirts, equipment, breakfast kick-off, awards dinner, how to judge.
As for rules, I've only got one...it's gotta be fun!

Ramping Up For Sunday
Things are heating up for "The Game" on Sunday. I have to there aren't any fence-sitters up here on the subject....not that I'd stir the pot. For the game, Matt Morgan's is featuring a game day appetizer menu entitled "Chicago vs. Wisconsin". Everything on the special menu is $2.
Vienna Chicago-style Hot Dogs vs. Johnsonville Brats
Taylor Street Italian Beef Sliders vs. Wisconsin Deep-fried PepperJack Cheese Curds
Maxwell Street Polish vs. ....it doesn't really matter, they'd lose
Goose Island Honker's Ale vs. Leinie's Original
Bears vs. Packers....are you serious? The Bears
Crying Towels....no charge
All is this is going into our Lakeland Times ad on Friday.
The Goose Island rep is arriving on Thursday with signage, banners and if I understood him correctly, some items to raffle off.
We're still waiting on Vienna Sausage for thier ideas.

Snowing and snowmobiles
On Tuesday I spoke with a fellow ice fishing out front of our piers and he said that we had better than a foot of good ice.
We're seeing occasional groups going by and the groomers have been out during the evening.
We're stocking up for the three day weekend. Between the good weather and the football playoffs, we're looking forward to additional traffic.
Plans are being finalized for our 3-day GermanFest (February 22nd, 23rd and 24th). One of our customers is a retired executive chef that was brought to the US from Germany to serve as a chef at the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee. He has agreed to sit with us and develop a menu of authentic German specialties for our event, as well as sharing some of his recipes and techniques!
